Versa: Spotify Lyrics Translator — Last updated August 13, 2026

Versa collects no personal data, has no backend, and runs no tracking or accounts. To translate, your browser sends lyric text directly to Google's public translation endpoint — see Translation requests below.

What Versa does

Versa is a Chrome extension that detects lyrics on open.spotify.com and injects translations inline, directly beneath each lyric line.

Data collected

Versa does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information. Specifically:

User preferences (local storage only)

Versa stores the following settings using chrome.storage.sync so your preferences persist across devices signed into Chrome:

These values are preference flags only — no lyric content, no identifiers, no usage data.

Translation requests

Translating a line means sending it off your device. Lyric text is sent to Google's public translation endpoint (translate.googleapis.com) directly from your browser, unauthenticated and with no identifier attached. Versa operates no backend server and never sees the text. Google's own Privacy Policy governs what happens to those requests once they arrive.

This only happens while translation is switched on and a lyrics panel is open. Turning translation off stops the requests entirely.

Translations are cached in memory for the session, so each unique lyric line is sent to Google at most once per session.

Permissions used

Third-party services

Versa uses Google Translate's public endpoint. No other third-party services are used. No analytics, no crash reporting, no ads.

Remote code

Versa does not load or execute any remote code. All JavaScript is bundled inside the extension package.

Children's privacy

Versa does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

Any updates to this policy will be reflected on this page with a revised date.
